Today's News Roundup: Trump Exposes Cheney & DeSantis - McCarthy Quits Congress?

😠 Trump Responds to Cheney's Claims

Former President Trump vehemently denied former Rep. Liz Cheney's assertion that he was "depressed and not eating" following the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Monday to set the record straight, stating that he was, in fact, angry and "eating too much."

In Cheney's recently released book, she recounts a conversation with then-Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who allegedly visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago after the Capitol riot, believing Trump to be in a state of depression and poor appetite.

"That statement is not true. I was not depressed, I WAS ANGRY, and it was not that I was not eating, it was that I was eating too much," Trump clarified in his Monday post.

"But that's not why [Kevin] McCarthy was there," Trump continued. "He was at Mar-a-Lago to seek my support and unite the Republican Party – Only good intentions."

🏈 Trump Blames DeSantis for Football Controversy

Former President Trump is pointing fingers at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, his rival in the GOP presidential nomination race, for the College Football Playoff committee's decision to exclude Florida State University's undefeated football team from the playoffs.

"Florida State was treated very badly by the 'Committee,'" Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday. "They become the first Power Five team to be left out of the College Football Playoffs. Really bad lobbying effort...Let's blame DeSanctimonious!!!"

Trump has often used the term "DeSanctimonious" and other pejoratives to refer to DeSantis, who was once an ally but is now actively campaigning against Trump for the 2024 nomination.

🏛️ Swalwell Predicts McCarthy's Exit

Rep. Eric Swalwell is making a prediction about former Speaker Kevin McCarthy's future in Congress, following the historic expulsion of former Rep. George Santos. Swalwell took to X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday to state his belief that McCarthy will leave Congress by the end of the year.

"With Santos gone, you're hearing it here first: the next GOP member to leave Congress will be @SpeakerMcCarthy," Swalwell wrote in his post.

"No way he stays," he continued. "A guy who kidney punches his colleagues from behind is too afraid to serve out a full term with them. I bet he's gone by the end of the year. What say you?"
